Lençóis is the main gateway to the Chapada Diamantina. There are 4 main ways to get to the city:

Direct flight to Lençóis: Azul operates direct flights from Salvador, generally on Thursdays and Sundays (flight availability may vary throughout the year). The airport is about 30 minutes from the city center . 
👉 Upon arrival by plane, Raízes can arrange a transfer to Lençóis .

Plane + Bus (most common option): Flight to Salvador + bus from Rápido Federal Viação Guanabara (https://viajeguanabara.com.br/onibus/salvador-ba/lencois-ba?passengers=1:1)to Lençóis. ⏱️ Average duration: 7h | 📍 Arrival at the bus station in the city center.

By car:
Access via BR-324 + BR-116/ BR-242, departing from Salvador. ⏱️ 6 to 7 hours | ~450 km . Those coming from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, or Belo Horizonte usually access via BR-116 to Vitória da Conquista and then BR-242.

When should I go to Chapada Diamantina? What's the best time to visit?

Accepted Answer

Chapada Diamantina is a year-round destination! Come whenever you want and can. The climate is tropical, the seasons are not well defined, and the weather can vary considerably from one region to another (the park is about 350 km from north to south).

In the summer (between January and March), the so-called summer rains occur. Even so, most days are sunny. The rains tend to be spaced out, rarely lasting all day and generally occurring at night, helping to replenish rivers and waterfalls.

Even with rain forecast, it's common for the day to clear up and the tours to proceed normally, sometimes with minor adjustments. As everything happens in nature, being prepared is part of the experience.

For the rest of the year, drier and sunnier days predominate, with occasional rain. The landscape changes throughout the year, and each visit is unique. In winter (June to August), the days are pleasant and sunny, with cooler nights.

With climate change, the weather has become more unpredictable. Therefore, our team constantly monitors weather and river conditions and adjusts itineraries when necessary, prioritizing safety and the best possible experience.

Long weekends and school holidays tend to be the busiest periods, so it's worth planning ahead. :)

Regarding the accommodation?

Accepted Answer

Accommodation in Lençóis is not included, so you are free to choose where to stay and for how long.
If needed, we can send you accommodation suggestions in Lençóis.

On multi-day treks (such as the Vale do Pati), accommodation is already included, as it is part of the experience.

In some specific itineraries - usually with Buracão or Fumacinha - there are 1 or 2 nights included in Mucugê or Ibicoara , for logistical reasons, since these attractions are located in the south of the National Park.

Do the tours include meals?

On full-day tours (round trips), a regional homemade lunch is included. On trails or routes where there is no place to have lunch, we include a generous snack kit .

For half-day tours, meals are not included. In this case, we advise you in advance to bring a snack or, if you prefer, include a snack kit.

When there is an overnight stay outside of Lençóis, breakfast is included .
On immersive treks - such as the Vale do Pati - full board is provided : breakfast, picnic and dinner.

How difficult are the tours and trails?

Accepted Answer

We classify our walks according to the level of physical exertion, considering distance, duration, elevation gain, sun exposure, and terrain type. Easy: Short walks, relaxed pace, and more stable terrain. Suitable for most people.

Moderate. Medium-length hikes with some uphill and downhill sections and uneven terrain. Suitable for those who already have some level of physical fitness.

Moderate to difficult. Longer hikes with challenging sections, steep climbs, and longer walking times. For those who enjoy adventure, it requires good physical fitness.

Difficult. Long hikes, steep inclines and uneven terrain. Suitable for people in good physical condition.

Difficult/Intense: Highly demanding physical experiences, with long distances, significant elevation gain, and several days of activity. Recommended for those with prior trail experience and good physical endurance.

The 3-day trek is ideal for those with less time available who want a deep experience in just a few days. It's done in a circuit format, entering and exiting through the same place - Guinea.
The 5-day itinerary includes more days within the valley, expanding the experience and the routes traveled. It's done in a "Crossing" format, entering through Guiné and finishing in the city of Andaraí. With each additional day spent in the valley, we discover more attractions.

Do I need to have trekking experience to do the Vale do Pati?

Prior experience is not mandatory, but it's important to be physically active, have a minimum level of physical fitness, and of course, enjoy challenges! The trek involves climbs, steep descents, and hikes lasting several hours a day. There are breaks for contemplation, swimming in waterfalls, and lunch. We adjust to and respect everyone's pace, always remembering that there is a time schedule to follow in order to complete the itinerary on time and without unforeseen events.

Each person should bring one or two 1.5L bottles , depending on the time of year and the heat conditions.
In the following days, you always leave in the morning with water replenished at the homes of the locals , where it is also possible to buy water. Throughout the trek, the guides indicate safe points for replenishing supplies, such as springs, rivers, and waterfalls, but availability may vary, especially during drier or very hot periods. Therefore, it is essential to leave well-supplied every day.
The water in the rivers of the Chapada Diamantina National Park is, in most streams, potable . The golden color is natural and comes from the infusion of leaves from the local vegetation.

Accommodation is not included - so you have the freedom to choose where and for how long you want to stay in Lençóis (or another base in Chapada).

On longer treks (such as the Vale do Pati), accommodation is already included, as it is part of the experience. In some exceptions, there may be an overnight stay in Mucugê, depending on availability and itinerary logistics.
On tour days, we will pick you up from your accommodation or arrange a meeting point, depending on your departure location.
